MENOMENA: Heavy Is As Heavy Does
Guess what, guys. Menomena is now a duo! Justin Harris and Danny Seim shave down beefy topics and emotions into slick, sweetly-coated servings. Like expert audio butchers. And this track? Moody is an understatement. It comes from the crew’s fourth full-length, Moms.
If Seim’s solo project Lackthereof hinted at least one half of Menomena’s abilities to beautifully lament catastrophe*, there’s reason to believe Moms will remove all question. The record comes split in two equal parts, letting each member have a hunk to fill with familial baggage. Seim’s explores the early death of his mother and the following repercussions. Harris’ half focuses on his crap relationship with his dad, according to a recent Pitchfork interview.
Moms drops September 18 on Barsuk. Pre-order hee-yuh.
*Your Anchor, in particular. It’s a poisonous choice for your turntable should your heart ache even slightly. Listening to it while freshly broken up is like feeding a cat poinsettia. Just don’t do it.
