Life doesn’t always have to have a plot: And as a single woman you have the luxury of playing around with an alter ego. Sometimes everyone needs a break from the routine of day-to-day life. A one night stand employing a fantasy persona is a break from being the fabulous woman you are and be another fabulous woman. I’m not talking about living a double life; I’m talking about one night. No strings attached. Just go with the flow.

Then I hit 30 and desperately wanted to have children. The man I’d been with for seven years wanted to have cats. So I did something that I was terrified to do: I left the man I was deeply in love with and moved from London to New York.

And basically everything that’s happened in my life — my children, my books, The Huffington Post, the fact that I’m standing here tonight — happened because a man wouldn’t marry me.
